National Drought Warning and Monitoring Center (NDWMC)-IRAN

National Drought Warning and Monitoring Center (NDWMC), established in 2008, as the leading founder of studies, monitoring and warning in Iran, is currently in the process of gathering data on precipitation, temperature, dust and other climatic parameters of synoptic stations and rain gage stations of ministry of power throughout the country.

Furthermore, NDWMC releases daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal and annual products after data analysis. Moreover, drought monitoring with agricultural and social purposes has been added to the activities since 2014.

 Some of the products which are currently available are as follows:

  1. Drought index maps, based in provincial and basin level including spi1, spi3, spi6, spi9, spi12 spi24, spi36, spi72, spi84 and spei1, spei3, spei6, spei9, spei12, spei24, spei36, spei72, spei84 are monthly updated.
  2. Drought index maps EDI, RDI, PNI and Deciles throughout the country which are monthly updated.
  3. Agricultural drought maps based on FAO recommended index (Agricultural Stress Index System, ASIS) and using Modis satellite images are provided based on the used agricultural areas throughout the country and are updated monthly.
  4. Mean temperature maps, temperature anomalies are produced on weekly, monthly, seasonal and annual basis.
  5. Snow cover extent maps, anomalies, graphs and tables are based on  MODIS/Terra and MODIS/Aqua in provincial and basin level on weekly and monthly.
  6. Dust maps with horizontal visibility between 200-10000 meter on monthly, seasonal and annual basis.
  7. Relative humidity, evaporation and sun hours maps which are monthly seasonally and annually updated.
  8. Drought index including VHI and NDVI using satellite images are weekly loaded on the website..
  9. Population- and area-related Graphs and tables of drought impact with monthly SPI and SPEI index.
  10.  14-day and 365-day effective precipitation graphs based on EDI index and 24-hour precipitation provided for synoptic stations in each province.
  11.  Change in the trend of precipitation days with less than 5, between 5 and 20 , and exceeding 20 mm during the last 25 years.
  12. Weekly, monthly, seasonal and annual reports, along with being loaded on website, are sent to policymakers.
